Intel 875P NorthBridge

The Intel 875P chipset features support for an 800 MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) and implements Intel Performance Acceleration Technology (Intel PAT) with dual-channel DDR 400 memory configurations to get incredible performance from the memory interface. Optimized to support the Intel Pentium 4 Processor with Hyper-Threading Technology, the 875P chipset adds intelligence to help manage and prioritize multiple threads received from the microprocessor.

This 875P chipset-based small form factor features the Intel Communication Streaming Architecture (CSA) offering a Dedicated Networking Bus interface, Hi-Speed USB 2.0, and Serial ATA. An enhanced AC97 audio implementation with dual independent DMA audio engines delivers improved sound quality and new audio usage models. The 875P chipset helps to ensure that tomorrow's most demanding applications will run optimally on Pentium 4 processor-based platforms.

Southbridge integration

The ICH5-R brings excellent I/O capabilities such as 2 Serial ATA headers with RAID striping or mirroring functionality. Further, integrated 6-channel audio delivers 100dB plus surround sound audio, while (8) USB 2.0 ports and FireWire 400 (from VT6207) provide great connectivity.

BIOS Control

The XPC SB77G5 uses an enhanced Phoenix-Award BIOS providing the user with optimum control over performance components. The advanced chipset features, for instance, allows for fully customizable memory timings. Several divisors are available to support RAM that can't handle a 1:1 ratio during tweaked performance.

Other important features of this BIOS include the PC health status section. Here users can adjust Smart Fan settings, choosing the optimum control environment to suit their needs. Further, long-time XPC users will notice that this section has been improved to include noise and temperature control settings.

On the performance-optimization front, the XPC SB77G5 supports a multitude of frequency and voltage controls. The FSB is adjustable in 1MHz increments all the way up to 355MHz. This feature is complimented by a full-palette of DDR, AGP and CPU voltage settings.

Silent X Technology

XPC SB77G5 has been enhanced with the latest Silent X technologies. The Silent X concept is embodied in a number of discreet Shuttle technologies, including: A 250W Silent X PSU, 4G Integrated Cooling Engine (ICE) and Intelligently-engineered airflow mechanics.

"Silent X is a world-class family of cooling and noise-reduction technologies exclusive to the Shuttle XPC," said Jonathon Yi, vice-president of product management, Shuttle. "The Silent X logo is your assurance that Shuttle XPC's are 'Super Quiet, Super Cool.'"

Integrated Cooling Engine (ICE) Module

The Integrated Cooling Engine (ICE) included in the SB77G5 improves on the previous XPC ICE design. The ICE module's thermal resistance has been decreased to an amazing .16_C/W. This is less half the thermal resistance of first generation XPCs and only one-third that of Intel's BTX standard. Further, the heat exchange surface area has been increased as have the number of radiator fins. Lastly, Shuttle's 4G ICE sports a generous 92mm cooling fan to quietly push more air out the back of the case.

The Integrated Cooling Engine uses convection cooling to transfer heat away from the processor and other critical system components. Copper tubing - coated in nickel and filled with distilled water - efficiently channels heat away, providing highly-effective processor and case cooling.

Smart Fan

To further improve XPC thermal and acoustic performance, Shuttle XPC's include Smart Fan functionality to intelligently monitor and control the cooling fans. Smart Fan incorporates linear control metrics to provide optimal cooling. Under normal conditions, Smart Fan keeps the fan speed low, minimizing acoustic noise. When the load increases, Smart Fan increases the fan speed to provide optimal cooling. Better still, Shuttle's Smart Fan lets you choose the desired temperature and fan speed to suite your ergonomic needs.

As described above, the XPC SB77G5 features a new 92mm Smart Fan, capable of shifting 50CFM (cubic feet per minute). This fan is designed to spin relatively slowly, depending on the processor and bus settings used.
 

250 Watt Power Supply

The SB77G5 features the Super Quiet, Super Cool - Silent X 250W PSU. Designed specifically for the XPC, this PSU features all the necessary cables to deliver optimized performance. Further, all cables come made to length and preinstalled, making it easy for users to setup and configure their XPC.

Tested in our acoustic lab from a distance of 50cm (many competitors take measurements at 1M), this Shuttle Silent X 250W PSU produces 32dB (or less) noise.

Intelligently Engineered Airflow

The XPC SB77G5 features more air intake points designed to keep the motherboard cool and stable. The chassis and underside of this XPC feature strategically positioned intake points that channel cool air across critical components. These intake points are engineered!Xsize and position!Xto minimize noise.

3. G5 Chassis

The XPC SB77G5 uses the new G5 chassis. Compatible with Shuttle's now-legendary "G" chassis, the G5 has been overhauled to provide radically improved cooling, easy component installation and is one of the handsomest small form factor computers ever created. The G5 makes a number of improvements over the earlier G and G2 series chassis, including:
 

Stealthed Port, Drive Bays

G5's clean facia is thanks to three well-integrated stealth bay covers. The optical drive, floppy drive and front media ports can all be hidden from view when not in use - providing superior style and visual appeal.

The integrated media ports on the XPC SB77G5's front panel have been redesigned for better functionality. The space between the USB ports has been increased to make room for devices such as digital camera and thumb drives to be installed at the same time. Also the line in jack has been moved to the back panel, providing a neat and functional finish.

Integrated Cable Management

Starting with the SN85G4 (production version), all new XPC's will ship with integrated cable management to ease installation. IDE and/or SATA cables are pre-installed, and power leads are wrapped and clipped to the chassis. Other improvements in cable design can be noticed with the new ultra slim front daughterboard cable.
