Next Generation Technology
Based
on the Intel® 945G + ICH7-R chipset, the XPC SD31P is the
first SFF computer optimized to support new Intel 600 and 800
sequence processors delivering innovative features and new
benefits for both home and business.
Dual Core(1).--increased multitasking
performance.
Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T)--support
for 64-bit extended operating systems, such as Microsoft®
Windows® XP Professional x64 Edition.
Hyper-Threading Technology(2)--multi-threaded
applications.
Execute Disable (XD) technology--increased
protection from malicious software.
Enhanced Intel SpeedStep® Technology--reduced
power consumption and fan noise.
(1) 800 sequence
processors only.
(2) 600 sequence processors only.
Memory Architecture
Support for dual-channel DDR2 memory technology at 667 MHz
(up to 10.7 GB/s of peak memory bandwidth) gives greater
platform performance and memory flexibility.
Intel® Flex Memory Technology facilitates easier upgrades by
allowing different memory sizes to be populated and remain in
dual-channel mode.
Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator
950
The Intel GMA 950 graphics core features a number of
optimizations tailored to emerging technologies in the
multimedia market. Smooth standard and high definition video
playback, enhanced modes for widescreen flat panels and
high-definition displays, and optimized Microsoft DirectXT 9.0
3D, enable the XPC SD31P deliver an intense, realistic visual
experience without requiring a separate graphics card.
Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live!
24-bit EAX high-definition 7.1 audio processor
The XPC SD31P with the Sound Blaster Live! 24-bit EAX
high-definition 7.1 hardware audio processor produces
multi-directional sound ideal for home theater environments.
Hardware sound processing reduces CPU utilization by up to
300% compared to software codecs.
SATA hot-plug
This model offers ample I/O connectivity, and then some.
Features, such as the Clear CMOS button and Wireless LAN
perforation, are Shuttle exclusives, not seen in other small
form factor computers. Further, the XPC SD31P also includes a
hot-plug SATA connector on the back panel to allow future
storage upgrades.

Silent X Technology
Integrated Silent X cooling and noise reduction
technologies deliver optimized cooling for exceptional
stability, comfort and reliability. Optimized cooling
features, including programmable smart fans and best-of-class
airflow, make the XPC SD31P ideal for use in any
setting--home, office, dorm--because it's "Super Quiet, Super
Cool."
Integrated Cooling Engine (ICE)
Module
Designed
for the P-chassis, the 4G Integrated Cooling Engine (ICE) in
this model is based on the same concept that made the first
XPCs a consumer success. The ICE heat-pipe module uses
convection cooling to transfer heat away from the processor.
Copper tubing, coated in nickel and filled with distilled
water of specific pH provides the conduit through which heat
passes to a radiator and is dissipated out of the system. A
quiet, speed controlled 92mm ducted fan covers the radiator,
providing both processor cooling and case exhaust.
350 Watt Power Supply
First seen in the SB81P, this 350W PSU delivers 100 Watts
more than previous PSUs whilst maintaining whisper quiet
operation. Tested in our acoustic lab from a distance of
50cm--to create an environment similar to actual usage (many
competitors take measurements at 1M)--the Shuttle Silent X
350W PSU in the XPC SD31P operates at just 27dB under normal
load. For performance users, this 350W PSU now includes a
PCI-Express power connector to run the latest power hungry
graphics cards.
Airflow
The XPC SD31P includes our revolutionary approach to
airflow design. Three independent cooling zones--CPU, HDD and
Case--ensure that cool air is delivered to critical
components.
From above, the airflow in the P-chassis shows several
different intake points designed to keep cool air continually
and evenly flowing over critical components, as opposed to
recalculating warm, stale air. For more information and
illustrations of the XPC SD31P's airflow system.
Smart Fan
Smart Fan incorporates linear control metrics to provide
optimal cooling. Under normal conditions, Smart Fan keeps fan
speeds low, minimizing acoustic noise. When the load
increases, Smart Fan increases fan speeds to provide optimal
cooling. Users can customize Shuttle's Smart Fan settings to
precisely match their desired temperature and fan speed
metrics. |

P Chassis
The XPC SD31P uses the new P chassis, a
member of Shuttle's fifth generation XPC chassis family. The
Shuttle P chassis has been designed with two major principles
in mind; refined ergonomic styling and easy installation
Stealth drive doors
The P's clean facia is thanks to three well-integrated
stealth bay covers. The optical drive, floppy drive and front
media ports can all be hidden from view when not in use
providing superior style and visual appeal.
Internal design innovation
The
redesigned internal structure of the P-chassis allows for
three 3.5-inch drives and one 5.25-inch drive. The internal
drive rack offers space for one 3.5-inch and one 5.25-inch
drive with the other bays located in the top portion of the
chassis. The rack's 3.5-inch bay can be used to install a FDD
or a legacy HDD if desired, making the P-chassis incredibly
expandable and flexible.
Toolless drive installation
The
Piece de la Resistance of the P-chassis are its toolless drive
mounting brackets. New to the XPC, these brackets make
installing drives a breeze. Further, installation of a HDD in
the rack mount requires no brackets whatsoever; just drop the
HDD in the rack (four-pins in the bottom of the rack and
compression clips hold the drive securely in place). Refer to
the manual for instructions on using these mounting brackets.
Integrated cable management
To
help improve airflow and reduce noise and vibrations, all
cables have been pre-installed and clipped in place. All you
need to do is add the components and you have a powerful and
tidy machine.
8-in-1 Card Reader
A
standard feature in the P-chassis, this card reader features
support for eight standard memory formats and provides
transfer rates of up to 480Mb/s (USB 2.0). Supported format
include; Compact Flash I (CF I), Compact Flash II (CF II), IBM
Microdrive (MD), Smart Media Card (SM/SMC), Secure Digital
card (SD), Multi Media Card (MMC), Memory Stick (MS), Memory
Stick Pro (MSP). |
