A masterpiece of integration, the SB86i is based around the Intel® 915G + ICH6-R chipset. Supporting new to market socket 775 Prescott processors, the 915G chipset will support a fast 800MHz FSB. In addition, this machine is equipped with a dual-channel DDR 400 memory controller and room for two RAM modules. Furthermore, integrated PCI Express x16 interface delivers twice the bandwidth of 8X AGP.

Intel GMA 900 Graphics

Intel's new integrated graphics architecture raises the bar for integrated graphics performance. GMA900 offer a 333MHz graphics core and 32bpp True Color Support for sharper, more detailed http://global.shuttle.com/Product/images. Further , industry-first DX8/DX9 support and enhanced 3D performance features, such as software Vertex Shader and Shadow Mapping, mean the GMA900 delivers great 2D and 3D performance.

Southbridge Integration

The ICH6-R brings next generation I/O capabilities such as 4 Serial ATA headers with RAID striping and mirroring functionality. Further, integrated 8-channel audio delivers 100dB plus surround sound audio, while (8) USB 2.0 ports (FireWire® 400 from VT6207) provide great connectivity.

Matrix Storage Technology

The innovation continues with the inclusion of Matrix RAID Technology (USB floppy drive required for installation), which combines the benefits of RAID 0 performance and RAID 1 protection on two hard drives. For example, games and video editing benefit from improved performance, while valuable personal photos and financial records can be better protected from a drive failure.

Clear CMOS

Shuttle's easy-access Clear CMOS button makes it easy to restore BIOS. First introduced in the XPC Zen, this feature has become extremely popular with system integrators and enthusiasts alike.

Stealthed optical drive - the "i's" clean fascia is thanks to a beautifully integrated optical drive door with an intelligently engineered eject button.

Power-on and HD indicator - In a move away from traditional LED globe indictors, the "i" uses diffused light to show the XPC's activity state.

Chassis materials

With exacting attention to detail, the i-chassis uses standardized, recyclable materials to deliver superior structural integrity, and noise minimization.

As the first steel XPC, this model benefits from the structural integrity that only steel can offer. For example, steel acts to dampen sound pressure and vibration caused by vibrating hard drives and optical drives. Further, a steel heatsink retention module allows for a 100 -percent increase in the allowable CPU heatsink mass.

Standardized components

Designed to conform to established industry standards, the i-chassis provides new levels of scalability through support for standardized components. Including: power supplies, full-height thermal module and motherboards.

Superior Cooling through In-line Airflow

Designed to meet exacting thermal and noise standards, this exceptional computer delivers whisper quiet cooling through optimized in-line airflow. Intelligent internal layout, component placement and clever venting ensure excellent stability and reliability. And, because this XPC is designed to use just two standard high-quality, slow-rotation fans, this XPC generates more airflow while generating very little noise - providing better stability, reliability and comfort.

Venting

Venting on the SB86i is designed to offer increased airflow to critical components, noiselessly. To do this, more low-impedance airflow vents have been added. The i-chassis succeeds with this task through large vents at the front of the machine, as well as supplementary venting located around the edges of the case. Further, because vents are located above and below the motherboard, critical components stay cool and stable.






 

Damping

This XPC introduces vibration damping to reduce the overall noise of the system. Specifically, eight specially designed rubber dampeners have been incorporated in the hard drive bays to remove this potentially harmful source of vibration and consequently, noise. These apparently simple devices provide remarkable results to the machines overall system noise. By reducing the vibrations caused by third party components and quickly transferring energy to the steel chassis, this XPC is the quietest ever designed.
